Timini’s Dilemma

Timini tossed, unable to sleep. She turned to the left and then to the right, trying to get comfortable but sleep fled. She needed to get this sleep if she was going to be in the best shape for work the next day. But she just could not get Kachi Out of her mind.

Kachi.

Kachi was the new employee at her workplace.  Everything seemed to be just right for her. She had a lovely physique, beautiful face, excellent dress sense, popularity among staff and above all, she had brains. Kachi was not the typical new kid on the block. If anything, her coworkers were all trying to get into her good books. Everyone loved her for her good nature. “If I don’t up my game ehn, this girl is going to upstage me, and I will lose my place in the office.”

Timini eventually fell into a troubled sleep and dreamt about finding a letter of termination on her desk. She woke up in cold sweat. And although it was just 4.30 am, she did not want to go back to sleep. She was too shaken by her dream.

Timini had always been honest and hardworking, taking the initiative to get things done and never shying away from responsibility. She wasn’t as good looking as Kachi, neither did she have that level of camaraderie with her colleagues. She preferred to be by herself and contribute her quota to building the organisation. Now she wondered whether she had gone about things the wrong way.

This was not her. She was a conservative young girl. What was she doing to herself? She did up the button and washed her face. She was not going to allow Kachi change her…

Maybe she should wear more daring clothes. She tried showing a bit of boob by undoing one more button. She wore some extra makeup and then took a look at herself…

This was not her. She was a conservative young girl. What was she doing to herself? She did up the button and washed her face. She was not going to allow Kachi change her…

As she made her way to work, the debate raged on in her head.

“I hope everything is okay?” A passenger by her side asked.

Timini was alarmed. She did not realise she had been talking to herself.

She flashed the guy an embarrassed smile and sighed. She hated what was happening to her.

As she stepped into the office that morning, thunderous applause greeted her ears. It suddenly dawned on her that the clapping was actually meant for her. She was puzzled. It wasn’t her birthday and she had nothing to celebrate. Then she saw the manager.

He cleared his throat and announced: “Congratulations Timinini, you have just been promoted to Head of Research and Strategy department. Your hard work has not gone unnoticed by management. Kachi will be your assistant and will organise your move into your new office on the fourth floor”.

The End
